Soviet Yiddish Press Bibliography Explorer
This application allows the general public to explore the bibliographical information about Yiddish Language periodicals published in the Soviet Union and Russian Empire. The project aims to facilitate the future digitization of the Yiddish Press funds stored in Russian and Ukrainian libraries.
Russian State Library in Moscow (RSL), National Library of Russia in Saint Petersburg (NLR), Vernadsky (NLU, in figures and the web-application abbreviated as Vern) and Ukrainian Book Chamber (UBC) in Kiev. This catalog makes it possible to check which issues of a given periodical are available in a certain library.
The database also indicates the geographical and temporal distribution of the periodicals, which facilitates the data browsing. This catalog includes the records of all the holdings of periodicals in Yiddish language or having some parts in Yiddish language available in the chosen libraries.
The newspapers published in other Jewish languages (Judeo-tat and Bukhari) in the Soviet Union are also included, as these materials are usually kept in the same departments of the libraries surveyed. The data from the catalog is presented in a specifically designed web application.
